The Kano State Task Force Committee on Peace Restoration and Youth Rehabilitation, in a coordinated joint security operation, has arrested 28 suspected thugs (Yan Daba) and recovered dangerous weapons and illicit drugs. The operations, conducted between 3rd and 13th March 2025, involved personnel from the Police, NDLEA, DSS, NSCDC, Nigerian Correctional Service, Immigration, and Vigilante Group.

The security crackdown was carried out at strategic locations within Kano Metropolis following intelligence reports of planned thuggery-related activities during the holy month of Ramadan. Recovered exhibits include:

-283 parcels and 14 wraps of dried leaves suspected to be Cannabis Sativa

-One cutlass

-Three scissors

-One pointed-iron

-Two bottles of “suck and die”

-Thirteen packets of Knockouts (bangers)

-One rubber solution

The suspects have been charged to Chief Magistrate Court No. 12 at Mallam Aminu Kano International Airport (MAKIA) for prosecution.

In a firm commitment to maintaining peace and order, the Task Force Committee has reiterated the ban on all forms of traditional performance known as “Tashe,” which has been associated with thuggery-related activities. Furthermore, the use of knockouts (bangers) is strictly prohibited, and violators will face the full weight of the law.

The Chairman of the Committee, Hon. Yusuf Ibrahim Kofar mata, commended the dedication of security personnel in the operations and urged law-abiding citizens to cooperate with law enforcement agencies to ensure a peaceful and secure Kano State.
