Federal government to enact a legal framework on the protection of endangered species across the country over there extinction.
Director Forestry Department, Federal Ministry of Environment,Dr Ama Moses made the disclosure during a two day workshop on: Reducing Demand for Vultures in Traditional Medicine practices organise by the Federal Ministry of Environment in collaboration with Nigerian Conservation Foundation held in Kano.
Dr. Ama Moses represented by Tijjani Ahmad Zakirai said the bill is passed by both chambers of National Assembly.
He said when enacted a stiffer penalty will bestowed on those that hunting such species and is a tool to reduce wildlife trade.
He further said federal government has take action to reduce the menace, which includes Development of National Vultures plan to revert it’s declining.and Nationwide awareness and education and sensitisation on them and to engage stakeholders on the importance of Vultures.
On his part, Director General Nigerian Conservation Foundation Dr Joseph Onoja represented by species programme Lead,NCF Dr Stella Egbe said the fora pave way for the revival of Vultures in the country.
In his welcome address, Northern Zonal Coordinator NCF Alhaji Garba Boyi said the purpose of the engagement was bring stakeholders to fine-tune the avenue of reducing endangered species.
In a remark, Special Adviser to Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf on Wildlife Conservation Alh Ahmad Halliru Sawaba said as the state government was honoured to host such event it geared towards reducing endangered species across the country.
