The Kano State House of Assembly has been adjudged the best State Legislature in Nigeria for Hansard and Verbatim Reporting. The award was presented by the Association of Hansard/Verbatim Reporters of Nigeria during its annual conference held in Abuja.
This was contained in a statement issued on Monday by the Chief Press Secretary to the Speaker, Sani Kamaluddeen Shawai.
While presenting the award to the Speaker, Rt. Hon. Jibril Isma’il Falgore, the Clerk of the House, Alh. Bashir Diso, stated that the Kano State House of Assembly emerged top among all 36 State Assemblies in Nigeria.
He attributed the achievement to the Assembly’s efficiency in producing and circulating the official report of plenary proceedings within 24 hours. He added that the Association, whose membership cuts across Nigeria and other countries including Kenya and Ghana, unanimously resolved that the Kano Assembly deserved recognition.
In his remarks, the Deputy Clerk, Alh. Aminu Zubairu, noted that globally, only a few countries surpass Nigeria, and by extension Kano, in the timely production of Hansard reports. He explained that while many parliaments worldwide release their reports within 24 hours, the Kano Assembly has consistently met this benchmark to ensure transparency and accountability to the people.
Alh. Zubairu further stated that the Kano State House of Assembly produces various categories of reports, with several of them uploaded on the Assembly’s official website for public access.
He described the award as a product of the committed leadership of Rt. Hon. Speaker Jibril Isma’il Falgore and the diligence of the Assembly staff.
Alh. Zubairu, who led the delegation that received the award on behalf of the Kano State House of Assembly, said the success was made possible by the provision of a conducive working environment and modern working tools. He noted that staff are equipped with laptops and computers, while the Assembly continues to invest in the right equipment to meet global standards.
He also expressed appreciation to Rt. Hon. Speaker Falgore for his unwavering support and commitment to the growth and development of the Kano State House of Assembly.
