Center for communication and social Impact CCSI and EngenderHealth in partnership with Kano state Accountability Mechanism kanSLAM has collaborates with civil society organisations and partners to harmonize advocacy efforts and strengthen accountability mechanism in Kano state.
The meeting brought civil society organisations coalition and partners to establish a collective alliance that will improve Reproductive, maternal, Newborn Child, Adolescent Health and Nutrition RMNCAH+N, Family Planning and Gender Social Inclusion in Kano state.
In his opening remarks, a Senior program Manager Center for Communication and Social Impact CCSI Oluyemi Abodunrin said the meeting provide a platform for a coalition to share successful strategies, Challenges and lessons learn from respective advocacy experiences, fosting a culture of continuous improvement and collaboration.
Speaking earlier, Hajiya Sabuwa Yahaya from International society of Media in Public health ISMPH reiterated their effort in supporting the media to make a good Reports on healthcare, budget and accountability issues.
In his presentation on the overview of the advocacy landscape in Kano state Jumare Abdul’aziz from EngenderHealth emphasized the importance of engaging legislators and local government officials in joint oversight visits, building the capacity of Media and civil society organisations in storytelling and policy engagement.
Jumare Abdul’aziz highlights some of their priorities that includes:
Strengthening RMNCAH+N and FP service delivery advocacy, supporting policy making reforms SWAP, KSCHMA and PHCs under One roof as well as passage and implementation of the Kano state trust fund law.
Jumare Abdul’aziz also pointed out some of the challenges that are facing such as:
Political transitions affecting continuity and commitment. Limited domestic funding in irregular budget release. Low CSOs capacity in data-driven advocacy and policy.
During the meeting many civil society organisations make their presentation which includes:
Hajiya Zainab from CSADI, Dr. Nura Haladu from kanSLAM, Dr Abdussalam Kani from FIDAC, Abubakar Imran Mansur from Women Gender Developers among others.
