Godfather Politics Remains Nigeria’s Biggest Obstacle — Comrade Nasiru Chamber

By: Kabir Getso

The President of the United Nigeria Youth Congress (UNYC), Comrade Nasiru Sulaiman Chamber, has described godfather politics as the biggest political problem hindering Nigeria’s democratic progress and development.

Speaking in an exclusive interview with journalists in his office, Comrade Chamber lamented that the continued dominance of political godfathers has crippled the nation’s growth and prevented capable youths from assuming leadership positions.

“Unless godfather politics is brought to an end, Nigeria will remain trapped in the past with no meaningful progress in its political landscape,” he stated.

According to him, elections in Nigeria have become a platform for recycling a few political elites and their children, instead of promoting competent, patriotic, and visionary young Nigerians who are genuinely committed to national development.

He decried the situation in the National Assembly, where he claimed many members were handpicked by political godfathers and have failed to make meaningful contributions to governance.

“Most of them merely occupy seats without any serious legislative impact,” he said.

Comrade Chamber emphasized that the time has come for Nigerian youths to rise, understand their rights, and reject the culture of political subservience. He noted that since youths make up the majority of the nation’s population, they have the numerical power to elect competent and courageous young leaders capable of driving real change.

He therefore urged Nigerians, especially the youth, to take voter registration seriously, describing it as the most powerful tool for ending bad leadership and dismantling the godfather political structure.

“Your voter’s card is your weapon for change,” he concluded.
