The Kano State House of Assembly has warned individuals and Non-Governmental Organisations (NGOs) against erecting illegal structures on government-owned land without obtaining the necessary approvals.
The Deputy Speaker of the Assembly and Chairman of its Special Committee, Alhaji Muhammad Bello Butu Butu, issued the warning during an on-the-spot inspection of land belonging to the Kano Agricultural and Rural Development Authority (KNARDA) and Kano Agricultural Supply Company (KASCO).
Butu Butu said the Assembly would no longer tolerate the unauthorised occupation or development of government property, stressing that public assets established with taxpayers’ money must be protected.
He also condemned the vandalisation of government facilities, urging citizens to safeguard projects executed by the Federal, State and Local Governments for the benefit of the people.
The committee inspected alleged encroached government land in Dabar Kwari, Dawakin Kudu Local Government Area, and Wudil Local Government Area.
The Deputy Speaker was accompanied by the Chairman of the House Committee on Agriculture, Ahmad Ibrahim Karaye; Committee Secretary, Ibrahim Yahaya; Co-Secretary, Sabo Ahmad; and other officials.
The Assembly said it would take necessary action to protect government property from encroachment and vandalism.
