Kano state government says the recent release of Sixteen Billion Naira for the payment of outstanding gratuities and pensions is a clear commitment to justice, fairness and the dignity of labour.
The state Head of service Alhaji Abdullahi Musa stated this at the two day workshop organized by state Chapter of the medical and health workers’ union of Nigeria for its retired members.
Alhaji Abdullahi Musa Represented by the Director Admin and general services office of the Head of service Malam Abdulkadir Shehu said the Two day workshop with the theme “Entrepreneurship Development and Life after Retirement” is not only timely but also forward -looking a testament to the union’s strategic foresight and steadfast commitment to the long-term welfare of the members.
“Retirement, as we all aware is an inevitable milestone in the career trajectory of every civil servant privileged with years of dedicated service and sustain good health. It signifies not merely the conclusion of formal employment but the commencement of a new chapter, one that requires deliberate preparation, prudent financial planning and a purposeful outlook,” HOS added.
The Head of service also appreciate the sustained support of the Kano state government for prioritizing the welfare of both active and retired civil servants through taken bold steps to address the backlog of unpaid entitlement inherited from previous administration.
He commended MHWUN for organizing the workshop, called on other unions to emulate for the better life of their members especially after Retirement.
Speaking earlier, the national president of the Medical and Health workers’ union of Nigeria comrade Kabiru Ado Minjibir commended state council of the union for organizing the workshop aimed at recognizing the efforts of health workers who has contributed immensely to the growth of Kano state health sector.
Comrade Kabiru Ado Minjibir who is also Deputy national president Nigeria Labour Congress NLC further said the workshop is a treatment to the progressive partnership between Kano state government and MHWUN targeted at recognizing the service of its retiring patriots’ equipping and supporting their transition into a healthy retirement.
In his welcome address, state MHWUN chairman Comrade Babangida Musa said the Union have notice the exit of 340 health workers from both state primary health care management Board and state Hospital Management Board and MDA’s in recent Disember 2024 mass retirement.
According to comrade Babangida Musa, in view of the foregoing the leadership of the union use the opportunity to critically examine the need to update skill and knowledge of retirees on how best to commence new life.
“I want to place on record to state government under governor Abba Kabir Yusuf to replace the gap for Human resource for health sector in the state especially the recent mass retirement in December last year”. State MHWUN chairman urged.
In his speech, the royal farther of the day Dan Malikin Kano the District Head of Rimin Gado Alhaji Auwal Mudi Yakasai described the workshop among one of the key functions of MHWUN that includes educational, economic, social and political functions.
The paper presentation at the event are delivered by professor Yusuf B Daraja, professor Mustafa Muktar and professor Abubakar I Hassan.
