Kebbi State Governor, Comrade Dr. Nasir Idris, Kauran Gwandu, on Friday commissioned the newly constructed Sheikh Abdullahi Fodio Jumu’at Mosque in Badariya, Birnin Kebbi.
The mosque was built by Alhaji Ibrahim Bagudu, younger brother to the immediate past Governor of Kebbi State and current Minister of Budget and Economic Planning, Senator Abubakar Atiku Bagudu. It has been handed over to the Jama’atu Izalatil Bid’a Wa’iqamatis Sunnah (JIBWIS), Kebbi State Chapter.
Representing the Governor at the commissioning ceremony, Deputy Governor Senator Umar Abubakar Tafida commended Alhaji Ibrahim Bagudu for his philanthropic gesture, describing it as a noble act worthy of emulation.
He noted that the Kebbi State Government has constructed and renovated over 100 Jumu’at mosques across the state, and encouraged members of the Muslim Ummah to follow Bagudu’s example by investing in both Islamic and western educational institutions for societal development.
In his remarks, JIBWIS National Chairman, Sheikh Abdullahi Bala-Lau, advised Islamic clerics not to politicize their sermons, urging them to focus on prayers, teaching, and the propagation of Islamic values.
He also presented Malam Munzir Abbas-Jega, a PhD holder, as the newly appointed Imam of the mosque, stating that he was selected based on merit.
Bala-Lau called on the congregation to respect the Imam regardless of his age and urged the new Imam to fear Allah in the discharge of his duties.
Earlier, two Rakaat congregational prayer was performed in the mosque attended by large number of Muslims.
Dignitaries at the event included the Speaker of the Kebbi State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Muhammad Usman , Hon. Bello Ka’oje, Member representing Suru/Bagudo Federal Constituency, as well as the APC State Chairman, Abubakar Kana Zuru.
Others include, Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, Hon. Garba Umar Dutsinmari and Commissioner for Finance, Hon. Abubakar Muhammad Birnin Kebbi among others.
