Nigeria’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, Ambassador Yusuf Maitama Tuggar, has congratulated the Super Falcons on their historic victory at the 2025 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON), marking their 10th title in the tournament’s history.
In a statement released after the team’s 3–2 win over Morocco in the final, Ambassador Tuggar described the Falcons as “true ambassadors of Nigerian excellence on the global stage,” commending their resilience, discipline, and unity.
“The Super Falcons have once again shown what it means to represent Nigeria with pride and purpose,” Tuggar said. “Their determination and consistency reflect the values we hold dear as a nation.”
He praised President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for his unwavering support of sports development in Nigeria and acknowledged the strategic efforts of Mr. Shehu Dikko and the leadership of the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF).
“This victory is the result of purposeful leadership, sound management, and the unshakable spirit of Nigerian athletes,” Tuggar stated. “I commend President Tinubu, Mr. Dikko, and the NFF for creating the environment that made this triumph possible.”
Ambassador Tuggar also highlighted the symbolic importance of the win, noting that it serves as a source of inspiration for young girls across Africa and a strong reminder of Nigeria’s influence on and off the pitch.
He reaffirmed the Ministry of Foreign Affairs’ commitment to advancing Nigeria’s global image through sports diplomacy.
“Their victory is not only a sporting achievement but a diplomatic symbol of Nigeria’s strength, unity, and global presence,” he added.
The Super Falcons’ win further cements their status as the most decorated women’s football team in Africa.
