Mr. Abubakar Dalhatu, Comptroller of the Nigeria Customs Service, Kano/Jigawa Area Command, has expressed his willingness to collaborate with the Kano Chamber of Commerce, Industry, Mines and Agriculture (KACCIMA) to foster a conducive environment for business operations.
Speaking during a courtesy visit to Executive Members of KACCIMA, the Comptroller said the partnership aims to support members of the business community in carrying out their activities in full compliance with the established regulations governing commerce in Nigeria.
He explained that the visit was part of a strategic effort to strengthen the existing relationship between the Nigeria Customs Service and the Kano Chamber of Commerce, Industry, Mines and Agriculture (KACCIMA), recognizing the Chamber as a key stakeholder in the region.
In his remarks, he stated, “We are here to convey the fraternal greetings of the Comptroller General, CGC Adewale, to the esteemed members of KACCIMA. Our doors remain open to support your business endeavors, provided they align with the laws of the land.
“It is not ideal to be handling large financial transactions in business without understanding the legal frameworks that govern such operations, especially those involving import and export activities.
“Our core mandate is to prevent the entry of contraband and substandard products into Nigeria, while also guiding the business community to operate within the established regulatory procedures.”
Comptroller Dalhatu further emphasized that the Service will fulfill its responsibilities through continuous training and sensitization, describing KACCIMA as a vital partner in achieving its strategic goals.
He commended the impressive turnout of KACCIMA members at the meeting, describing the level of attendance as highly encouraging.
Earlier, the President of KACCIMA, Ambassador Usman Hassan Darma, expressed appreciation to the Comptroller for the visit and affirmed the Chamber’s commitment to collaborating with the Customs Service on a sensitization campaign across the state.
He highlighted that the Kano Chamber of Commerce was founded over a century ago and currently boasts more than 50,000 dormant members and 5,000 active members.
Ambassador Darma emphasized that the Chamber plays a pivotal role in overseeing activities related to mining, trade, industry, and agriculture within the state.
He further noted that the Chamber intends to develop sensitization advocacy for relevant stakeholders, ensuring that their members are well-informed about the operations of other organizations, including security agencies, to safeguard them from legal conflicts.
The meeting concluded with a question-and-answer session, during which the Comptroller provided valuable insights into the fundamental guidelines governing their operations.
