Kano state government has earmarked over N432 billion for the education sector in the approved 2026 budget representing 29 percent.
The state commissioner for Planning and Budget Alhaji Musa Sulaiman Shanono announced this at the press conference on the breakdown of 2026 approved Budget.
He said the proposed budget had a total of over one Trillion 477 billion Naira presented by the Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf to the state House of Assembly on 19th December 2025 in line with the constitutional provision of the federal Republic of Nigeria 1999 as amended.
The commissioner further said the budget consist over One Trillion 48 billion Naira as a total recurrent revenue and over N138b as expected from internally generated revenue IGR while over N909b were expected from the Federation Account Allocation Committee FAAC.
According to Alhaji Musa Sulaiman Shanono, the total recurrent expenditure is over N429b representing 30 percent while the capital expenditure takes over One Trillion Naira representing 70 percent.
” The 2026 budget is higher than the 2025 by over 758 billion Naira which represents 51 percent.” The commissioner said
Alhaji Musa Sulaiman Shanono pointed out that education sector followed with over N214, 839b representing 15 percent.
The commissioner further said the 2026 budget tagged ” budget of infrastructure, inclusive Growth and sustainable development” seeks to further consolidate the present administration’s policies under governor Abba Kabir Yusuf that are being implemented in directing resources and effort to stimulate human capital and economic growth of the state.
