The Kano State Hospitals Management Board (HMB) has taken decisive disciplinary action against a medical doctor serving in one of the state’s secondary health facilities for reporting to duty under the influence of alcohol and engaging in unprofessional conduct while on duty.
The incident, which occurred within a government health facility, was promptly reported to the management. Following the expiration preliminary findings confirming misconduct, the Executive Secretary of the Kano State Hospitals Management Board, Dr. Mansur Mudi Nagoda, approved the immediate issuance of a formal query to the doctor and ordered his suspension pending the outcome of a full-scale investigation.
In a statement signed by public relations officer state Hospitals management Board Samira Sulaiman said the Board reiterates that such behavior is grossly unacceptable and violates the ethical standards and professional code guiding medical practice. Healthcare delivery requires the highest level of responsibility, discipline, and sound judgment, especially within secondary health facilities where patients’ lives are entrusted to medical personnel.
The Executive Secretary emphasized that the present administration under Governor of Kano State, Engr Abba Kabir Yusuf, remains committed to restoring professionalism, accountability, and excellence across all health institutions in the state. Any act capable of undermining public trust in the health system will be met with firm and appropriate sanctions.
The Hospitals Management Board assures the general public that a thorough investigation is underway and that further actions will be taken in line with civil service regulations and medical ethics once the process is concluded.
The Board remains steadfast in its commitment to safeguarding patient safety, maintaining discipline among healthcare workers, and ensuring quality service delivery across all secondary health facilities in Kano State.
