The National Environmental Standards and Regulation Enforcement Agency (NESREA) has sealed off twenty-one facilities in the Federal Capital Territory,FCT, for Non Compliance with environmental laws.
Among the affected facilities sealed were construction and Real estate projects that failed to carry out Environmental Impact Assessment before the commencement of their projects as required by National Environmental Regulations 2011.
The Director General, NESREA, Professor Innocent Barikor said the Exercise was carried out due to public complaints of the adverse environmental impacts caused by the activities of the facilities.
“The construction sector has continued to deviate from the provisions of the National Environmental (Construction Sector) Regulations 2011 and the Environmental Impacts Assessment Act. There were many public complaints against these facilities and officials of NESREA carried out investigations, after which notices of compliance concerns were issued to these facilities. However, they failed to adhere to the provisions of the environmental laws, hence the Action by the Agency,” he said.
According to Professor Barikor the activities of the facilities has exposed host communities to various forms of environmental degradation and disaster such as flooding, erosions, and burrow pits.
Facilities affected include, White Avenue Real Estate in Lugbe; CCECC projects located at both the FIRS and Central Business District; Mo Mouna Construction in Katampe; Practis Project; Belmont Court in Idu; Istrom Construction; and MAB Global Estate, also in Idu.
Others are Anarock Global Services Limited, Quali Trends Nigerian Limited, Boked International Limited, Tim Tali Transport Limited, Matilda Rozi Limited, Efedi Homes at Kukwaba District, and T’lon Construction and Facilities Management.
Also affected are Cosgrove’s Shopping Mall Project at Wuse II and its Estate Project at the Central Business District; Constrix in Idu; Tayyib Homes Limited in Lugbe; and Contrix Cube in Katampe.
