An Abuja-based barber, Joshua Aiyenuro, has declared his intention to break a Guinness World Record by attempting the world’s longest haircut marathon.

Mr. Aiyenuro, the founder of the T-Jos Signature brand, which caters to top Nigerian footballers and other high-profile clients, made the announcement during a media briefing in Abuja.

He said that the record attempt would hold on June at the Velodrome of the Moshood Abiola National Stadium.

Driven by a passion to elevate African talent beyond local recognition, Mr. Aiyenuro said the project aims to demonstrate the global potential of African skills.

“I want the world to know that talent in Africa is not limited to music or athletics,” he said. “Our hands, our minds, and our drive can make history. This is more than a haircut, it’s a statement to every young African that we can dream big and achieve even more.”

Mr. Aiyenuro expressed hope that his record attempt would inspire other skilled professionals across the continent. “We don’t need to leave Africa to make history. We can build legacies right here, with what we have,” he added.

The President of the African Civil Society Forum (AFRICSOF), Blessing Akinlosotu, who was also at the briefing, called on public and private sector stakeholders to support the initiative.

“This isn’t just about breaking a record,” he said. “It’s about showcasing African excellence in innovation, skills, and resilience. Supporting Joshua is an investment in African pride and youth empowerment.”

Mr. Akinlosotu revealed that the campaign would extend beyond the record attempt, with plans to launch community projects aimed at addressing social issues such as drug abuse, illegal migration, and cybercrime.

He said the second phase would focus on encouraging youth to channel their skills into productive ventures.

AFRICSOF, in partnership with T-Jos Signature, is spearheading the initiative as part of a broader mission to inspire a new generation of Africans to believe in their potential and contribute to national transformation.
