Life’s journey remains a constant reminder that power, position and privilege are transient. Today’s subordinate may become tomorrow’s leader, and yesterday’s superior may gracefully bow out of office as history turns a new page.
Such is the unfolding narrative within the leadership of the Nigeria Police Force.
Not long ago, Tunji Disu, then serving as a Commissioner of Police, stood before his superior to render official briefings and strategic reports. At the time, the Inspector-General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun, presided over the affairs of the Force, steering its operations and policies at the highest level.
Now, in a remarkable twist of institutional progression, Disu, who rose to the rank of Assistant Inspector-General (AIG), is set to assume the mantle of leadership as Inspector-General of Police.
The development underscores a timeless lesson — authority is temporary, but service and humility endure. Public office is a trust bestowed for a season, and transitions in leadership serve as reminders that no position is permanent.
Observers note that the seamless transition reflects the structured hierarchy of the Force, where experience, discipline and years of service shape succession.
Indeed, in life and leadership alike, humility remains the greatest badge of honour, for nothing lasts forever.
