Kano State Deputy Governor, Alhaji Murtala Sule Garo, has reiterated that community and individual investment in education can transform society and the nation at large.
Alhaji Murtala Sule Garo stated this today Saturday at the graduation ceremony of Eight hundred and fifty students (850) of the Community College of Education, Kano, sponsored by Senator Ibrahim Shekarau, which was held at the School of Arabic Studies (SAS), Kano.
The Deputy Governor said the occasion was not merely about the issuance of certificates but an opportunity to testify to the importance of education, particularly for women.
He congratulated the graduates, popularly tagged “Ya’yan Mallam,” and reaffirmed efforts of the Kano State Government to improving the standard of education, noting that the priority accorded the sector was also reflected in the state’s budget.
He stressed the importance of educating citizens especially women, saying, “When you educate a woman, you educate a nation.”
The Deputy Governor called on politicians, philanthropists and other well-meaning individuals to emulate Senator Ibrahim Shekarau’s contribution to education, while urging the graduates to become good ambassadors of their institution.
Alhaji Murtala Sule Garo also disclosed that he would relay the outcome of the graduation and the graduates’ situation to Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf, while advising the governor to consider their employment.
He linked the suggestion to the recent recruitment of more than six thousand (6,000) teachers by the Kano State Government, describing it as a historic development in the state.
Also speaking, Senator Ibrahim Shekarau (Sardaunan Kano) appreciated Deputy Governor and other dignitaries for attending the ceremony.
Senator Shekarau explained that the school was established through the initiative of a Da’awa group known as “Wa’azu Wal Ihsan,” adding that the institution had been active for the past four to five years.
He commended Deputy Governor Garo for indicating his intention to relay the graduates’ request to Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf, stressing that teachers remained vital to the education system.
“Without teachers, classrooms cannot function effectively,” he said.
He also commended the management of the Community College of Education, Kano, under the leadership of Muhammad Adam, as well as parents for supporting the students, particularly the female graduates.
He urged the graduates to be good ambassadors of the school and appealed to the Kano State Government, on behalf of the school management, to provide a permanent site for the institution to enable it expand its activities.
