Dala Local Government Council as part of efforts to boost agricultural productivity and enhance food security, has launched the sales of 1,800 bags of fertilizer to farmers at a subsidized rate of N20,000 per bag.
Speaking during the the flag off, the Executive Chairman of the Council Alhaji Surajo Ibrahim Imam, explained that the initiative was designed to support and encourage subsistence and large-scale farmers likewise registered’ Associations across the 12 political wards of the Area
He stated that each ward will receive 100 bags for distribution to those genuinely in need under strict supervision
Alhaji Surajo emphasized that monitoring committees were established in each ward to ensure accountability.
The committees according to him include:
1. Ward leadership
2. Elected councillor of the ward
3. Option A Committee
4. Head of the Farmers Association
5. CRC representatives
6. Kano Proper Lafiya Jari
7. Community leaders (Mai Unguwa)
He added that interested farmers must pay N20,000 per bag through TAJ Bank, and present the payment slip to the Council’s Agricultural Department. No credit, no guarantees, no reservation
The Chairman posited that the process is based on first to come basis in each ward.
Alhaji Surajo Ibrahim Imam reiterated that it was no longer news farming is the back bone of the larger society hence a key driver of development
He used the opportunity to pray for the repose of the soul of late former President Muhammadu Buhari, asking Almighty Allah to forgive his shortcomings and grant him eternal rest
In his remarks, Head of Agricultural Department of the Council, Malam Sani Nano Kunya, congratulated the farmers for receiving the fertilizer at a time of great need and at an affordable price.
He moreover prayed for abundant harvests across the greater environment
On his part, NNPP Chairman in Dala, Alhaji Dayyabu Ahmad Maiturare, commended the effort in making fertilizer accessible and affordable as it would help in lessening the price of foodstuffs
The Chairman of the party stressed the need for the supervisors to uphold honesty and openness in the course of their assignments as ordered by Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf as he is committed in ensuring food availability statewide
In his votes of thanks on behalf of the beneficiaries, Malam Abdullahi Mohammad appreciated the council’s intervention, saying it will go a long way in improving agricultural output in Kano in view of Dala’s position as the largest farming locality across the forty four Councils.
