In a bid to revolutionize its agricultural sector, the Nigerian government has initiated the adoption of traceability technology for agricultural exports.
This move aims to enhance the quality, safety, and transparency of agricultural commodities, ultimately boosting revenue generation and securing a competitive edge in the global market.
Ambassador Nura Abba Rimi, Permanent Secretary of the Federal Ministry of Industry, Trade and Investments, disclosed this during a sensitization workshop held in Kano.
He said, the implementation of a robust traceability system will address concerns related to product quality, safety, and compliance with international standards.
“This, in turn, will create an environment where Nigerian farmers, processors, marketers, and exporters can thrive in the competitive global marketplace.”
“The Ministry of Industry, Trade and Investments is driving the sensitization of relevant stakeholders through workshops and training programs.”
“Benefits of Traceability Technology includes ,Enhances product credibility and trust, Ensures compliance with international standards ,Increases transparency and accountability within supply chains and Boosts revenue generation and competitiveness in the global market.”
The Permanent Secretary noted that Countries like the United States and those within the European Union have already mandated traceability frameworks to enhance food safety and quality.
“Nigeria’s adoption of traceability technology aligns with global best practices and the Federal Government’s commitment to strengthening the agricultural sector’s contribution to the economy.”
“The successful implementation of traceability technology in Nigeria’s agricultural sector will require collective efforts from stakeholders. The government, farmers, processors, marketers, and exporters must work together to ensure the adoption and full implementation of this innovative system.”
He added that As Nigeria takes this significant step towards agricultural excellence, the future of the sector looks promising.
