The Nigeria Association of Women Journalists (NAWOJ), Kano State Chapter, has commended the organizers of the Special Reception and Award Ceremony held in honour of Hajiya Mariya Galadanchi, describing the initiative as a remarkable and impactful milestone in the history of broadcasting and women’s development in Nigeria.

In a statement issued by the Association, NAWOJ Kano expressed deep appreciation for the successful hosting of the event which celebrated the life and legacy of Hajiya Mariya Galadanchi, a trailblazer whose 62 years in broadcasting have inspired generations and contributed immensely to community enlightenment.

 

The Association particularly applauded the establishment of the Hajiya Mariya Galadanchi Foundation, aimed at supporting young women journalists in their academic pursuits. NAWOJ described the initiative as timely and visionary, noting that it will serve as a platform for nurturing the next generation of female media professionals.

Speaking on the development, the Chairperson of NAWOJ Kano, Sayyida Bahijja Malam Kabara, stated:

“This is indeed timely, and I will be proud to announce in the future that it was during my tenure that this laudable initiative came to life. As part of my personal commitment to this dream, I have decided to contribute a quarter of one hundred thousand naira to support the foundation, as it aligns with our vision of building and empowering upcoming women journalists.”

NAWOJ Kano also extended its profound gratitude to the Kano State Government under the able leadership of His Excellency, Engr. Abba Kabir Yusuf, for the generous donation of Ten Million Naira towards the foundation. The Association described the gesture as a clear demonstration of the government’s support for media development and women empowerment.

The Association further noted that the immense contributions of Hajiya Mariya Galadanchi to the field of journalism and broadcasting will continue to be remembered and celebrated for years to come.

The event was attended by several distinguished personalities, including the Commissioner for Information, Comrade Ibrahim Waiya; Professor Abdallah Uba Adamu; Dr. Bala Muhammad of Bayero University Kano; Shaikh Ibrahim Khalil; Adamu Rano of Radio Kano; Hajiya Maryam Baba Yaro; Hajiya Aishatu Sule; Hajiya Salma Yusuf; Dr. Zahra; Muhammad Umar, as well as other prominent figures and veteran journalists.

NAWOJ Kano reaffirmed its commitment to supporting initiatives that promote the growth, education, and professional advancement of women journalists across the state and beyond.
