The Kano State House of Assembly has released the names of 22 lawmakers who have defected from the New Nigeria People’s Party (NNPP), reaffirming their allegiance to the administration of Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf.
The disclosure was contained in a statement issued today Saturday by the Speaker’s spokesperson, Kamaluddeen Sani Shawai, who said the affected legislators took the decision in solidarity with the governor and in endorsement of his leadership.
According to the statement, the lawmakers formally resigned their membership of the NNPP and are awaiting further directives in line with their political realignment.
Those listed include the Speaker of the House, Rt. Hon. Jibril Ismail Falgore (Rogo); Deputy Speaker, Rt. Hon. Muhammad Bello Butu-Butu (Tofa/Rimin Gado); Majority Leader, Hon. Lawan Hussain (Dala); Deputy Majority Leader, Hon. Garba Shehu Fammar (Kibiya); Chief Whip, Hon. Muddasir Ibrahim Zawachiki (Kumbotso); and Majority Whip, Hon. Zakariyya Abdullahi Nuhu (Gabasawa).
Others are Hon. Lawal Tini (Ajingi), Hon. Musa Tahir Haruna (Albasu), Hon. Ali Lawan Alhassan (Bagwai/Shanono), Hon. Ali Muhammad Tiga (Bebeji), Hon. Hafiz Gambo (Bunkure), Hon. Rabiu Shuaibu (Dawakin Kudu), Hon. Tukur Mohammed (Fagge), Hon. Murtala Muhammad Kadage (Garko), Hon. Abdulmajid Isah Umar (Gwale), Hon. Engr. Ahmad Ibrahim (Karaye), Hon. Alhassan Zakari (Kura/Garun Malam), Hon. Suleiman Mukhtar Ishaq (Madobi), Hon. Abdulhamid Abdul (Minjibir), Hon. Muhammad Ibrahim (Rano), Hon. Kabiru Sule Dahiru (Tarauni) and Hon. Ali Abdullahi Manager (Wudil).
The Assembly noted that the defection of the 22 members underscored their collective resolve to stand firmly with Governor Yusuf’s administration in the pursuit of policies and programmes aimed at promoting the development and welfare of Kano State.
The statement reaffirmed the Assembly’s continued support for the governor in advancing good governance across the state.
