In a bid to address the decades-long water shortage in Rano Town, Kano State Governor, Alhaji Abba Kabir Yusuf, has directed the Ministry of Water Resources to tap water from Tiga Dam for a continuous supply to the town.
The governor made this announcement while receiving the Emir of Rano, Ambassador Dr. Muhammad Isa Umar, who paid him a Sallah homage at the Government House, Kano.
Governor Yusuf commended the Emir for his unwavering concern for the welfare of his people and assured him that the government is taking concrete steps to address the water crisis.
The governor revealed that arrangements have been made to construct boreholes in collaboration with the local government, despite the challenging rocky topography of the area.
The Tiga Dam, which is expected to supply water to Rano Town, has recently been inspected by the Kano State Government to ensure its safety.
The dam is also home to a 10 MW HydroPower Station, which was completed in 2023.
Governor Yusuf reiterated his administration’s commitment to improving various sectors, including agriculture, healthcare, environmental development, education, and women and youth empowerment.
The Emir of Rano, Ambassador Dr. Muhammad Isa Umar, thanked Governor Yusuf for the ongoing developmental projects in the emirate and urged him to continue addressing the water supply challenges.
The Emir also commended the governor for acting on complaints regarding the five-kilometer road project, which led to the replacement of the contractor with a more competent one.
The Sallah homage was a grand and colorful event, featuring traditional performances, including the famous guitar entertainers of the Rano Emirate, who showcased unique artistic displays.
