Kano State government has assured its commitment to partner with relevant stakeholders in Reducing the high rate of maternal mortarlity and morbidly in the state.
The state commissioner for health Dr Abubakar Labaran Yusuf stated this at a one-day policy dialogue and accountability forum with civil society coalitions and development partners.
He said Kano state government fully understands its health challenges and priorities, especially the urgent need to ensure that no woman dies from pregnancy, labour, or childbirth complications.
Dr. Abubakar Labaran Yusuf pointed out that every child born in Kano must have a fair chance at survival, noting that improving the health and well-being of women and children remains central to the state’s health agenda.
According to Dr Abubakar Labaran Yusuf the present administration under governor Abba Kabir Yusuf is fully committed to ensure that no woman died as a result of pregnancy.
The commissioner urged the participants to come up with relevant outcomes of the meeting will support and guide for the implementation the in 2026.
“The purpose of this meeting is to review our progress and identify opportunities to strengthen gender and social inclusion,” Dr Labaran added.
Outlines the objectives of the meeting, the Deputy Director planning, Research and Statistics Kano state ministry for health Jamilu Abubakar said the meeting is to review progress, challenges and opportunities in advancing Gender and Social Inclusion PHC improvement and Reproductive, maternal, Newborn Child, Adolescent Health and Nutrition RMNCAH+N outcomes. To share evidence and best practices on family planning and Health systems strengthening. To provide a platform for CSO Coalition and partners to engage with policymakers for improved accountability and resource mobilization. To strengthen partnership and coordination between CSO’s, Government and development partners for Sustainable health intervention and lastly, to develop clear action points and advocacy priorities for improved policy implementation.
Speaking earlier, the Policy Coordinator of the Centre for Communication and Social Impact (CCSI), Atiku Mohammed Yola, presented key achievements from the first year of the Advocates for Improved Primary Health Care Outcomes project implemented with EngenderHealth across Kano, Kaduna, and Lagos States.
Atiku Muhammad Yola further said the project, now entering its second year, has supported Primary Health Care Management Boards in strengthening their operational capacities.
According to Atiku Yola the ongoing collaboration with the Kano State Health Contributory Management Agency (KSCHMA) to boost informal Sector, adding that the forum was aims to review progress, challenges and strengthen collaboration with policymakers, civil society advocates and community Groups.

In her Goodwill massage, the state Program Officer of the International Society of Media in Public Health (ISMPH), Sabuwa Yahaya, reaffirmed the organisation’s commitment to improving health outcomes, service delivery, and community awareness.
“We are working together in supporting healthcare delivery through mobilizing the public awareness through media and other platforms,” Sabuwa ISMPH added.
Other speakers during the meeting are State Lead of the Legislative Initiative for Sustainable Development (LISDEL), Dr. Muhammad Inuwa Shu’aibu,Aisha Abimbola of SOLINA (SPARK Program), Comrade Salisu Yusuf representing civil society organisations, and Abdulhamid Abubakar, the State Programme Coordinator of the Lafiya Projects.
In her paper presentation, the state for health Reproductive Health/ family planning coordinator Dr. A’isha Barka applauds the Kano state government for earmarked 500 million Naira in its 2025 Budget for family planning in the state.
