The Kano State Government, through the Immunisation Plus and Malaria Progress by Accelerating Coverage and Transforming Services (IMPACT) Project, on Tuesday 3rd February 2026 distributed essential medical commodities to all 484 Primary Health Care (PHC) facilities across the state under the Kano State Primary Health Care Management Board (KSPHCMB). The exercise was led by the Honourable Commissioner for Health, Dr. Abubakar Labaran Yusuf, as part of efforts to strengthen primary health care service delivery and improve access to essential medicines.
A symbolic distribution involving 24 selected health facilities took place at the Drug and Medical Consumables Supply Agency, where each facility received commodities valued at Nine Hundred and Twenty-Five Thousand Naira (₦925,000). The items distributed include antibiotics, antenatal care drugs, Accident and Emergency (A&E) essential medicines, malaria test kits and drugs, as well as analgesics, aimed at effective management of common ailments at the community level.
In a statement signed by public relations officer KSPHMB Sa’adatu Sulaiman said Speaking at the event, Dr. Abubakar Labaran Yusuf explained that the intervention is targeted at improving drug availability and quality of care in PHC facilities across Kano State. He attributed the success of the initiative to the unwavering support Governor of Kano State, His Excellency Alhaji Abba Kabir Yusuf. The Commissioner further disclosed that a tracking mechanism has been put in place to ensure the commodities are used judiciously and provided to patients free of charge, while cautioning PHC in-charges against diversion or misuse of the supplies.
In his remarks, the Director General of KSPHCMB, Professor Salisu Ahmad Ibrahim, described the distribution as a significant boost to primary health care services and reiterated the Board’s commitment to accountability and effective utilization of the commodities. The Programme Manager of the IMPACT Project, Muhammad Nura Yahya, also reaffirmed the project’s dedication to supporting the state in improving immunisation, malaria control, and overall health outcomes for the people of Kano State.
