Kano State Government has set a target to immunize over three million children as part of the ongoing March 2026 Supplemental Immunization Plus Days (SNIPDs) campaign.
The State Commissioner for Health Dr Abubakar Labaran Yusuf made this known during the symbolic flag-off of the exercise held at Muhammad Abdullahi Wase Teaching Hospital.
While addressing the gathering, Kano State Commissioner for Health, Dr. Abubakar Labaran Yusuf, reaffirmed the state government’s unwavering commitment to safeguarding the health of children and eradicating polio.
The Commissioner, who was represented by the Director-General of the Primary Health Care Management Board, Professor Salisu Ahmad Ibrahim, said the engagement was aimed at updating the public and ensuring the successful implementation of the immunization campaign.
He noted that the administration’s sustained investment in primary health care has significantly strengthened service delivery, resulting in remarkable progress across the health sector.
Dr. Abubakar Labaran Yusuf added that high-quality interventions have been put in place to support immunization activities throughout the state.
He further highlighted that Kano’s thirteen months without any reported case of polio stands as a clear testament to the government’s commitment and the effectiveness of its strategies.
According to him, the state has recorded tremendous progress in the fight against the polio virus through well-coordinated approaches, including house-to-house vaccination of eligible children.
The Commissioner also disclosed that a substantial number of vaccination teams have been trained with a view to sustain the gains achieved so far.
In speach the representative from National Primary healthcare Development Agency Maryam S Umar commended Kano state government in its effort to make state polio Free State.
She called all parents and caregivers to bring out their children for immunization.
Speaking earlier, Dr. Sereke Deres Bhereham a Health Manager UNICEF Kano field office has reiterated UNICEF commitment to provide all necessary support for the Polio immunization in the state.
” The exercise need a teen work were visiting House to House to see all eligible children are vaccinated to ensure Polio free Society.” Dr Sereke Deres added
In their separate remarks, other development partners Dr Fascal from Global Polio eradication and Dr Sunusi Abubakar Mayana from World Health Organisation WHO commended the Kano State Government for achieving thirteen months without polio transmission and expressed optimism that the state will maintain its polio-free status.
