The Kano State Ministry of Health has paid an assessment visit to the Primary Healthcare Centre (PHC) in Unguwa Uku, Tarauni Local Government Area, to evaluate the quality of healthcare services being delivered, particularly to malnourished children.

The delegation was led by the Commissioner for Health Kano State Dr Abubakar Labaran Yusuf ably represented by the Director of Public Health and Disease Control, Dr. Ibrahim Aliyu Gano, who emphasized the commitment of the State Government to improving access to quality healthcare services at the grassroots level.

In a statement signed by public relations officer state ministry for health Nabilisi Abubakar Kofar Na’isa said during the visit, Dr. Gano commended the leadership of the PHC Head, Hajiya Aisha Ahmad Usman, for her dedication in managing the centre and ensuring that vulnerable children receive the care they deserve. He also expressed appreciation to development partner, Médecins Sans Frontières (MSF), represented by their Project Coordinator, Dr. Hemmed Lukonge, for their continued support in addressing malnutrition and strengthening the health system.

Dr. Gano explained that the visit was aimed at assessing how children suffering from malnutrition are being treated at the centre, with a focus on the distribution and utilization of Ready-to-Use Therapeutic Food (RUTF) provided free of charge. He disclosed that the State Government, in collaboration with its partners, has invested one billion in the procurement of RUTF to ensure malnourished children across the state have access to life saving nutrition.

The welfare of our children remains a top priority for the administration. By working hand in hand with our partners, we are determined to reduce the burden of malnutrition and guarantee a healthier future for our young ones.

The Ministry reaffirmed its commitment to strengthening primary healthcare delivery and ensuring that every child, regardless of background, has access to essential health and nutrition services.
