The Kano State Contributory Healthcare Management Agency (KSCHMA) has inaugurated the Students Contributory Healthcare Programme (SCHEP) Committees across eight Colleges of Nursing Sciences and Schools of Health Technology in the state. The initiative is designed to strengthen contributory healthcare awareness, promote enrollment, and enhance healthcare education among students and staff of health institutions.
The inauguration ceremony, held at the Agency Conference Hall, began with an opening prayer and self-introductions by participants.
In her opening remarks, the Executive Secretary of KSCHMA, Dr. Rahila Aliyu Muktar emphasized the importance of the SCHEP Committees, describing them as vital platforms to institutionalize contributory healthcare awareness in tertiary health institutions. She noted that the committees will play a frontline role in sensitization, peer education, and mobilization for the contributory healthcare scheme.
In a statement signed by public relations officer KSCHMA Aminu Ahmad Turaki said A detailed presentation was delivered by Dr. Jamila Mustapha, who outlined the objectives of SCHEP, its benefits, and the pivotal role of the committees in championing contributory healthcare education within their respective schools.
The highlight of the event was the formal inauguration of the eight committees by the Executive Secretary. The committees inaugurated represent the following institutions:
Kano State School of Nursing Sciences, Kano
Kano State College of Nursing Sciences, Madobi
Kano State College of Nursing Sciences, Gwarzo
Kano State College of Nursing Sciences, Dambatta
Kano State School of Midwifery, Kano
School of Health Technology, Kano
School of Health Technology, Bebeji
School of Hygiene, Kano
Dr. Rahila Aliyu Muktar charged the committees to take ownership of the programme and drive impactful sensitization efforts within their institutions.
The event also featured an interactive Questions & Answers session, followed by discussions on the next steps to ensure effective implementation. It concluded with a closing prayer.
KSCHMA reaffirmed its commitment to ensuring access to quality and affordable healthcare services. The Students Contributory Healthcare Programme (SCHEP) is specifically designed to provide healthcare coverage for students throughout their period of study.
