The Kano State Government has appreciated the ongoing April 2026 Polio Vaccination Campaign in Bunkure Local Government Area, reaffirming its commitment to protecting children from preventable diseases.
The state Commissioner for Health, Dr. Abubakar Labaran Yusuf announced this during a supervision At at Gidan Toro in Gafan Ward of Bunkure local government area.
The commissioner called on parents and caregivers to ensure their children are vaccinated.
Dr. Abubakar Labaran Yusuf also described polio as a highly contagious disease with no cure, noting that it can cause permanent paralysis if a child infected.
According to the commissioner vaccination remains the only effective way to prevent the disease and safeguard the future of children.
The Commissioner explained that the vaccine helps to strengthen children’s immunity and is targeted at children from birth to 59 months.
Dr Abubakar Labaran Yusuf pointed out that Kano state government is committed to reaching every community to ensure no eligible child is left behind.
Dr. Yusuf also addressed misconceptions about the vaccine, dismissing claims that it contains harmful substances.
The commissioner reassured that, the polio vaccine is safe, effective, and approved by relevant health authorities. Adding parents have the primary responsibility of protecting their children.
The commissioner further said government has fulfilled its responsibility for providing the vaccines free of charge.
In his remarks, the Village Head of Toro, Alhaji Bello Umar Muhammad, expressed appreciation to the Kano State Government, pledged the community’s full support to ensure all eligible children are vaccinated.
In a statement signed by public relations officer state ministry for health Nabilisi Abubakar Kofar Na’isa said the village Head also appealed to the government for its intervention on some developmental projects in the area.
Meanwhile the Commissioner visited Dala Local Government Area to monitor the ongoing campaign.
The commissioner also commended health workers for their dedication, urged them to maintain accurate data to enhance effective service delivery.
It may recalled that, the April 2026 state National Plus Day’s campaign was flags off on Saturday targeting over 3.7 children under five across the 44 local government areas of the state.
