The Kano State Primary Health Care Management Board (KSPHCMB) has strengthened the capacity of 44 Local Government Area Chairmen to use evidence and routine health data to guide planning, budgeting, resource allocation and decision-making for improved Primary Health Care (PHC) delivery across Kano State.
The two-day Data-to-Decision Leadership Workshop, held from 15th to 16th August 2026 at Bafra Hotel, Kaduna, was organised by KSPHCMB and supported by the Clinton Health Access Initiative (CHAI), under the theme, “Strengthening Evidence-Based Planning, Accountability and Resource Allocation for Primary Health Care.”
Speaking at the workshop, the Director-General of KSPHCMB, Professor Salisu Ahmad Ibrahim, emphasised the critical role of political leadership in translating health data into informed decisions and measurable improvements in PHC delivery. He stressed that data should go beyond collection and reporting to become a practical tool for identifying service delivery gaps, setting priorities, allocating resources effectively and driving actions that respond to the health needs of communities across the 44 LGAs.
The state Commissioner for Health, Dr. Abubakar Labaran Yusuf, represented by the Permanent Secretary, Pharmacist Aminu Bashir, reaffirmed the Ministry’s commitment to strengthening collaboration with Local Government leadership to advance the state’s Primary Health Care agenda. He emphasised that effective planning, accountability and strategic investment based on credible evidence are essential to ensuring that available resources are directed towards priority health needs and produce tangible results for the people.
In a statement signed by public Relations Officer KSPHCMB Sa’adatu Sulaiman said the workshop provided the 44 LGA Chairmen with practical knowledge on interpreting routine health data, assessing PHC performance, identifying priority gaps and linking evidence to planning and budgeting, with particular emphasis on identifying priority interventions for consideration in their respective 2027 Annual Operational Plans (AOPs). At the conclusion of the engagement, the Chairmen renewed their commitment to strengthening political ownership, accountability and data-driven decision-making within their respective LGAs, while KSPHCMB expressed confidence that the initiative would contribute to stronger PHC governance, more strategic resource allocation and improved health outcomes across Kano State.
