The Kano State Primary Health Care Management Board (KSPHCMB) has carried out a high-level supportive supervision exercise across two Primary Health Care facilities in the state as part of its ongoing efforts to strengthen service delivery and accountability at the grassroots. Two supervisory teams were deployed to Unguwa Uku Primary Health Care facility in Tarauni Local Government Area and Rimin Gado Primary Health Care facility in Rimin Gado Local Government Area.

In a statement signed by public relations officer SPHMB Sa’adatu Sulaiman said the supervision exercise was conducted using a carefully developed and standardized checklist to ensure objective assessment and uniformity across facilities. The areas assessed during the visits included: external environment and physical infrastructure; administration and human resource management; financial management; availability and management of medicines, supplies and equipment; service delivery; the health management information system; and the level of community engagement in supporting primary health care services.

Speaking on the importance of the exercise, the Director-General of KSPHCMB, Professor Salisu Ahmad Ibrahim, stated that high-level supportive supervision remains a critical tool for improving the quality, efficiency and responsiveness of primary health care services. He explained that the approach is designed to provide guidance, mentorship and system strengthening, rather than fault-finding, while ensuring compliance with established standards.

Professor Salisu further reiterated the Board’s commitment to continuous quality improvement across all Primary Health Care facilities in Kano State, noting that regular supervision and monitoring will continue to be prioritized to enhance accountability, improve health outcomes and ensure that communities receive accessible, safe and quality health care services.
