The Progressive Northern Youth (PNY) has come out in defense of Professor Abdullahi Sale Usman, Chairman of the National Hajj Commission of Nigeria (NAHCON), against allegations of favoritism and unjust postings. Dr. Muktar Suleiman, national coordinator of PNY, described the accusations as unfounded and politically motivated, stating that they are the work of saboteurs trying to distract the commission from its mandate.
According to Suleiman, the commission’s successes under Professor Usman’s leadership have made some individuals uncomfortable, leading them to try to tarnish his image and that of the Tinubu administration. However, Suleiman emphasized that empirical evidence shows that the commission’s leadership is not tampering with its rules and regulations.
PNY urged Nigerians, especially intending pilgrims, to disregard the report as baseless. The group also commended Vice President Kashim Shettima for his efforts in streamlining and repositioning NAHCON to deliver on its mandate.
Suleiman highlighted the commission’s achievements, including refunding N5.3 billion to State Pilgrims Welfare Boards and tour operators for poorly rendered services during the 2023 Hajj. He also noted that the commission has employed capable service providers to take care of intending pilgrims.
The PNY’s statement comes as the 2025 Hajj preparations are in full swing, and the group urged Professor Usman to continue his good work, assuring him of the backing of patriotic Nigerians.
