The introduction of veterans cup nationwide is aim to promote peace and unity among the veterans who played the round leather game and serve the nation in different capacity as well as remembering the fallen veterans.
This was disclosed by the north west zonal Coordinator of the veterans football Competition Hon Danburan Abubakar Nuhu in an Exclusive Interview with Express Radio in Kano.
Danburan a former commissioner of youth and sports development Kano state said the introduction of veterans cup has enhance the good relationship between the veterans Nationwide, with football competition played annually.
On the impact of organizing a competition for the veterans despite their age the former legislator said ” it makes the players to come together after a long absence from the game and remember so many things that happens in the fast”
The former vice chairman house committee on sports in the national assembly narrated the history behind the years of the competition as successful which makes the competition exceptionally good and accepted by the veterans Nationwide.
“The coming together of the old lions that makes Nigeria football great in the fast is some thing to reckon with “said the former executive director in the banking sector.
On this year zonal qualifiers the former member representing Kano municipal in the national assembly said “this year competition will witness the coming off of all state in the north west for the first time with all seven state expected to participate on like before with only three to four states participating.”
He then highlighted that with all state participating the competition will be very tough and entertaining with regard to the presence of many important dignitaries that will grace the opening especially the chairman national sports commission in person of Malam Shehu Dikko who’s also a member of the veterans as well as the presence of state minister for housing Abdullahi Ata a former famous footballer in Kano State and so many important personalities expected to be present.
The competition will commence with the draws on wednesday at Sani Abacha Stadium Kano state while the main test will begin on Thursday morning, Danburan stated.
