The West African Examinations Council, WAEC has introduced Computer-based Test , CBT, in the conduct of this year’s West African Senior School Certificate Examination (CB-WASSCE) for School Candidates, 2025.
To further curb the incidents of examination malpractice in the conduct of WAEC examinations, the Council has also introduced variations in examination papers, whereby two candidates will not have same question on each number.
The Head, Nigeria National Office of WAEC, Dr. Amos Dangut announced this at a news briefing in Lagos.
He said that WAEC decided to leverage on modern Information and Communications Technology (ICT) in the conduct of the West African Senior School Certificate Examination for School Candidates this year , to further boost the integrity of its examination and curb examination fraud.
He stressed that his Council decided to introduce the Computer-based Test , CBT, into the conduct of this year’s West African Senior School Certificate Examination for School Candidates and
variations in examination papers, in a way that no two candidates would have same question on each number as a means to key into the new paradigm shift in the education sector.
Dr. Dangut explained that the paradigm shift in the education sector as keyed into by WAEC through the adoption of the current test administration was geared towards upholding the academic and moral integrity of the National Policy on Education in line with the vision of the Federal Ministry of Education.
The WAEC boss in Nigeria also announced that following the directive by the federal government, any examination centre caught in the act of perpetrating examination fraud would either seize to exist as an examination centre to all examining bodies or be sanctioned for a period of time depending on the severity of the offence.
Dr. Dangut said at least five hundred and seventy-four schools discovered by WAEC as perpetrators of examination fraud had been reported to relevant authorities this year and they have been sanctioned accordingly.
He therefore , called on parents to encourage their wards to study hard for the forthcoming examination rather than encourage them to engage in examination malpractice.
He also warned the online examination fraudsters to desist from their illegal activities as government would not hesitate to punish them according to stipulated laws.
The WAEC boss however, expressed the hope that with the help of relevant security operatives and support of state governments, the Council would conduct this years examination under a well secured environment.
A total of One Million, Nine Hundred and Seventy Three Thousand, Two Hundred and Fifty-Three candidates from Twenty-Three Thousand, Five Hundred and Fifty-Four schools are expected to sit the West African Senior School Certificate Examination (CB-WASSCE) for School Candidates this year.
