No fewer than 2,500 residents are benefited from a two-day free eye care programme sponsored by the Kano State Government through state Hospitals Management board as part of Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf’s commitment to improving access to quality healthcare services.

The State Commissioner for Health, Dr. Abubakar Labaran Yusuf, disclosed this while flag off of the exercise at Murtala Muhammad Specialist Hospital, Kano, reaffirmed the government’s determination to provide affordable and accessible healthcare to the people.

Dr. Abubakar Labaran Yusuf described the ongoing AKY Eye Free medical outreach Programme as a major healthcare intervention aimed at improving access to quality eye care services, particularly for residents who cannot afford treatment.

The Commissioner expressed satisfaction with the conduct of the programme and reaffirmed the commitment of the Kano State Government, under the leadership of Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf, to providing accessible and affordable healthcare services.

Dr. Labaran Yusuf said the two-day outreach offers free eye screening, treatment, and other essential medical services, urging eligible residents to take advantage of the initiative.

On his part, the Executive Secretary of the Hospital Management Board, Dr. Mansur Mudi Nagoda, said about 2,500 residents from Kano municipal and Gwale local government areas are benefited from the programme as a take off which includes free medications, 100 cataract surgeries, and the distribution of 1,000 prescription eyeglasses to patients with visual impairments.

Dr. Mansur Mudi Nagoda added that the outreach, scheduled from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m daily was part of the state’s broader plan to extend free vision care services to all 44 Local Government Areas, while encouraging residents with eye-related conditions to utilize the opportunity.
