The Kano State Coalition for Good Governance has declared its unwavering commitment to safeguarding democratic representation in Kano North Senatorial District, vowing to resist any plot aimed at undermining the mandate of the Deputy President of the Senate, Senator Barau I. Jibrin.

Addressing Journalists at the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) Secretariat in Kano today, Barrister Mukhar Tukur Gadanya, Chairman of the Kano State Coalition for Good Governance, delivered a strongly worded press conference titled “Dangerous Plot Against the Deputy President of the Senate, Senator Barau I. Jibrin, CFR, PhD, FCNA.”

Gadanya revealed that the coalition, which draws membership from all 44 local government areas of Kano State, had uncovered what he described as a coordinated attempt by “disgruntled elements and agents of destabilization” to thwart the re-election bid of Senator Barau Jibrin in 2027.

He alleged that these forces, working in collaboration with external actors, were determined to deny the people of Kano North and Kano State the benefits of the senator’s “selfless service” and impactful representation.

He lauded Senator Barau’s record, noting that his legislative contributions and grassroots interventions have transformed lives across Kano and Nigeria.

Gadanya highlighted achievements such as the sponsorship of the bill establishing the North West Development Commission, the creation of the Federal University of Science and Technology in Kabo, the upgrading of FCE Kano to a university, and the provision of scholarships for Kano indigenes both locally and abroad.

Other projects mentioned included power stations in Bichi, Kabo, and Dawanau, study centres of NOUN and Federal University Dutsin-Ma, as well as extensive infrastructure works ranging from roads and schools to hospitals, boreholes, and solar streetlights.

According to Gadanya, Senator Barau has also provided over 40,000 bags of fertiliser annually to farmers, alongside scholarships for students at home and abroad. “These achievements and host of others not mentioned explain why the people of Kano North Senatorial District strongly support and demand the continuity of his representation in the Senate beyond 2027,” he noted.

The coalition chairman alleged that a “failed politician” had been contracted by forces outside Kano to destabilize Barau’s political standing ahead of the 2027 elections.

He claimed that substantial resources had been mobilised for this purpose but insisted such efforts would fail, given the senator’s overwhelming grassroots support.

Gadanya further suggested that Barau’s rising profile could see him considered for higher responsibilities, including the position of Senate President, which he said was part of the motivation behind attempts to undermine him.

“We remain optimistic that such schemes will not succeed Insha Allah. The people of Kano North stand firmly with Senator Barau and no amount of political handicapping will override our collective will for better governance and presentations,” Gadanya affirmed.

He called on those involved in the alleged plot to desist and allow the democratic will of the people to prevail.

The coalition also expressed appreciation to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for his confidence in Senator Barau and the people of Kano State.
