The Governor of Kano State, Alhaji Abba Kabir Yusuf, has reaffirmed his commitment to making life more comfortable for orphans in Kano through enhanced infrastructure, human development, and social welfare programs.
Governor Yusuf, made this statement during an Iftar (breaking of fast) event held with orphans at the Government House, shortly after returning from a funeral of the mother of Katsina State Governor, Alhaji Dikko Radda.
Highlighting his administration’s priorities, Governor Yusuf emphasized the importance of education, noting that the state had declared a state of emergency in the education sector.
He assured the orphans that his administration would support their education, enabling them to pursue higher studies at universities or other institutions.
“We will also support those interested in acquiring skills. We have 26 entrepreneurship schools, and after graduation, we will provide you with the tools needed, based on the trade or craft you choose to learn,” the Governor stated.
He further mentioned the ongoing disbursement of ₦50,000 grants to women across the state, which he described as a unique initiative in Nigeria.
The Governor pledged to extend this support to the women at the orphanage, Home Grown, to improve their livelihoods.
“Your happiness is our happiness,” Governor Yusuf remarked passionately. He added, “Anyone who cheats orphans will not escape God’s wrath.”
On infrastructure, Governor Yusuf promised to build a modern, well-equipped hostel for the orphans, complete with beds and an upgraded playground.
He also directed the compilation of names of orphan graduates seeking employment, assuring them of job opportunities.
“We recently gave automatic employment to 54 students who just returned from India. Why shouldn’t we extend such a gesture to you?” he stated.
As part of his support, the Governor donated two Hajj seats to the orphans for the 2025 pilgrimage.
“Your father, the Governor, is going to be the Amirul Hajj. I have to take some of you with me. This is just the beginning,” he said.
Earlier, the Commissioner for Women Affairs, Children, and People with Disabilities, Hajiya Amina Abdullahi, along with the Secretary to the State Government, Alhaji Umar Faruk Ibrahim, and the Head of Service, Alhaji Abdullahi Musa, commended the Governor for his exceptional care and commitment to the welfare of orphans.
Speaking on behalf of the orphans, Abdullahi Muhammad expressed gratitude, noting that Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf had shown them unprecedented care and concern.
Another orphan, Malama Maryam, described the Governor as treating them like his biological children due to his unwavering dedication to improving their lives.
