The Executive Governor of Kano State, Alhaji Abba Kabir Yusuf, has extended special commendation to the Kano State Emergency Management Agency (SEMA), the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA), and the Kano State Ministry for Special Duties for their coordinated efforts in abating a potentially tragic fuel tanker incident that occurred on Wednesday, 11th June 2025, along the BUK-Gwarzo Road, near the NYSC Secretariat Junction.

The incident involved a petrol tanker fully loaded with Premium Motor Spirit (PMS) which lost stability while entering a filling station, triggering fears of a possible explosion in the densely populated area.

In a statement issued by his spokesperson, Sunusi Bature Dawakin Tofa, Governor Yusuf noted that the timely intervention and strategic coordination by SEMA, NEMA, and the Ministry for Special Duties played a crucial role in managing the emergency.

“The quick mobilization and professional coordination exhibited by SEMA, in collaboration with NEMA and the Ministry for Special Duties, greatly contributed to the successful containment of the situation and prevention of what could have been a major disaster,” the Governor said.

Governor Yusuf lauded the readiness, leadership, and behind-the-scenes coordination provided by the Ministry for Special Duties, which ensured smooth inter-agency collaboration during the critical phase of the emergency.

He added that the synergy between SEMA and NEMA was instrumental in resource mobilization, public safety management, and technical support, all of which contributed to safeguarding lives, property, and restoring normalcy swiftly.

Governor Yusuf reiterated his administration’s unwavering commitment to strengthening the capacities of emergency response institutions in Kano State and fostering stronger partnerships with federal and humanitarian agencies.

“We will continue to support agencies like SEMA and the Ministry for Special Duties, while deepening collaboration with NEMA, to ensure Kano remains proactive, prepared, and protected during emergencies,” he concluded.
