The Ministry of Health and its Agencies has received strong assurances of collaboration and support from the Kano Emirate Council towards improving healthcare services and promoting the wellbeing of citizens across the state.
This assurance was given by His Royal Highness Emir of Kano Malam Muhammadu Sanusi II during a courtesy visit by officials of the Kano State Ministry of Health to his palace.
The Emir commended the efforts of the Kano State Government in strengthening the healthcare sector and expressed satisfaction with the remarkable progress being recorded, particularly in the reduction of maternal mortality across the state. He emphasized the importance of continuous collaboration between the traditional institution and the health sector in safeguarding the lives of the people.
Speaking during the visit, the state Commissioner for Health, Dr Abubakar Labaran Yusuf represented by the Director General state Primary Healthcare Management Board, Professor Salisu Ahmad Ibrahim, stated that the purpose of the visit was to brief the Emir on the achievements and successes being recorded by the Ministry and its agencies, especially in reducing maternal and child deaths in Kano State.
In a statement signed by public relations officer state ministry for health Nabilisi Abubakar Kofar Na’isa the Commissioner further explained that the Kano State Government has established 99 malnourished centers across the state to provide care and support for children suffering from malnutrition. He disclosed that, with the support of development partners, the state government procured Ready-to-Use Therapeutic Food (RUTF) worth over Five Hundred Million Naira for the treatment of malnourished children.
He stressed the need for the Emirate Council to intensify public enlightenment campaigns on proper nutrition and healthy feeding practices, particularly among pregnant women, in order to prevent the increasing cases of child malnutrition in communities.
The Emir also directed all District Heads, Village Heads, and Ward Heads to continue mobilizing and encouraging residents to regularly visit healthcare facilities for medical check-up and proper healthcare services.
According to the Emir community participation and awareness remain key in achieving better health outcomes.
In her remarks, Dr Rahila Aliyu Muktar Executive Secretary Kano state Contributrebutory Healthcare management agency KSCHMA revealed that the clinic located within the Emir’s palace has been selected as one of the healthcare facilities that will benefit from the state’s health intervention programme designed to support vulnerable and less privileged citizens.
Dr Rahila Aliyu Muktar added that many patients attending the facility are already benefiting from the scheme.
Other members of the delegation included Prof. Salisu Ahmad Ibrahim, Dr. Rahila Aliyu Muktar, Director Medical Services Dr. Shehu Abdullahi, Director Public Health and Disease Control Dr. Ibrahim Aliyu Gano, Director Planning, Research and Statistics Muhammad Nuruddeen Yahya, Director Manpower Dr. Sa’adatu Saleh, Pharmacist. Salisu Hashim, and Incident Manager (IM) Dr. Abdullahi Sa’ad among other senior officials.
The visit further demonstrated the commitment of the Kano State Government and the Kano Emirate Council towards strengthening healthcare delivery and improving the wellbeing of citizens across the state.
