Kano state government has assured its readiness to work with relevant stakeholders to End maternal and Neonatal Mortality in the state.
The state commissioner for health Dr Abubakar Labaran Yusuf stated this during the One-day validation workshop on Baseline Analysis and Gender Youth and social Inclusion Analysis in the state.
The commissioner said the workshop focused on how to improve the state primary healthcare activities across the 44 local government areas of the state.
Dr Abubakar Labaran Yusuf pointed out that, the EngenderHealth have done some basic assessment of the state primary healthcare activities with aim to make people healthy especially women and children.
“They have brought the assessment now, I have listened to them and I passed it to technical working group to analyze to ensure that we have a functional primary healthcare centers in the state,” The commissioner said.
Dr Abubakar Labaran Yusuf further said Kano state government through state ministry for health will ensure all the necessary areas are addressed.
The commissioner also commended the effort of EngenderHealth for working with Kano state government especially in the health sector.
In his presentation, Jumare Abdul’aziz from EngenderHealth highlights some of the gaps that needs to address which includes: limited integration of PPH and other MNH services into primary healthcare centers, absence of digital health policy and decision support system with the state ministry for health and state primary healthcare management Board as well as gaps In accountability and community participation for primary healthcare centers delivery.
Malam Jumare Abdul’aziz also commended the Kano state government for making good policies in the health sector which is inline with the federal ministry of health interms of MSCH and Representative, Maternal, Newborn, Child and Adolescent Health RMNCAH- N.
According to Jumare Abdul’aziz Kano state government is doing well particularly in the state Contributrebutory Healthcare management agency KASHCMA were they are reaching out to the inmoramal sector that statistics shows that the increase from 20 percent to 83 percent between 2024 and 2025 in the state.
“But still there’s gaps which we’re advocated for particularly around some policies in national health insurance scheme policy and digital health policy,” Jumare said.
Malam Jumare Abdul’aziz highlights some of the recommendation during their findings that includes Financing salary of healthcare workers, looking for the revise the law for the Kano health trust fund KHETFUND and also recommend for the fully implement the Ward Development Committee WDC according to the guidelines for the National Primary Healthcare Development Agency currently working on.
During the workshop Mrs Favor made the presentation on Gender Youth Social Inclusion GYSI.
The event attended by all the Directors from the state ministry for health, Representatives from the National Primary Healthcare Development Agency, Development Partners, People With Disabilities and representative from Civil Society Organisations.
