The Kano State Government has inaugurated the Shurah Council, a body set up to strengthen governance and promote sustainable development in the state.
The inauguration took place at Government House, Kano, with Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf describing the council as one of the strategies of his administration to ensure fairness, justice, and inclusiveness in governance.
He said the council would serve as a think-tank to advise government on critical areas such as the economy, education, healthcare, security, and the general welfare of the people.
According to him, the move is also part of efforts to open channels for public participation in governance, where citizens can make suggestions and contributions for the progress of the state.
The Secretary of the Shurah Council, Alhaji Shehu Wada Sagagi, announced the appointment of the Waziri of Kano, Sheikh Sa’ad Shehu Gidado, as chairman, while Prof. Sani Zaharaddeen will serve as vice chairman. A total of 67 other members were also named.
Members of the council are drawn from Islamic scholars, business leaders, professionals across different sectors, and community representatives from all parts of the state.
