The Kano State Government has successfully carried out the monthly symbolic distribution of Free Maternity Items and Accident & Emergency (A&E) Commodities to healthcare facilities across the state.

The state Commissioner for Health, Dr. Abubakar Labaran Yusuf, explained that the monthly provision of these vital commodities is part of the governor’s bold commitment to reduce maternal and child mortality, improve access to quality healthcare, and ease the financial burden on families.

“This initiative fulfills one of Governor Abba’s key campaign promises to provide free, safe, and efficient healthcare services, particularly for pregnant women and children, who are the most vulnerable members of society.” He said .

The commissioner pointed out that the free maternity items which include essential supplies 6000 kits for normal and 600 kits for cesarean deliveries, emergency commodities, and critical life saving equipment are strategically distributed to ensure that every woman, regardless of her social or economic status, can access quality care during childbirth.

Dr Abubakar Labaran Yusuf further said this monthly intervention will not only save lives but also strengthen our healthcare facilities to respond swiftly to emergencies.

In his remarks, the Executive Secretary, Kano State Hospitals Management Board, Dr. Mansur Mudi Nagoda expressed profound appreciation to Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf for his unwavering support and unmatched dedication to the health sector.

He commended the governor’s relentless efforts in repositioning the state’s healthcare system, describing the initiative as a true reflection of people centered governance.

Dr. Nagoda also warned that the use of the utilization register is compulsory to ensure transparency, accountability, and proper documentation of all distributed commodities.

Other dignitaries present at the event include the Director General of the Drugs and Medical Consumables Supply Agency (DMSCA), Pharm. Ghali Sule, the Chief Press Secretary to the Governor, Dr. Mustapha Muhammed, Directors from the Board, Chief Medical Directors/Zonal Directors, among others, who all applauded the governor for prioritizing the welfare of women and children in Kano State.

The free maternity and A&E distribution exercise stands as another historic milestone in Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf’s health sector reforms, reflecting his enduring vision to build a healthier Kano where no mother or child is left behind.
