Kano state government in collaboration with partners to immunize 3.9 million children under five in November Polio Camping exercise across the state.
The Director General state primary healthcare management Board Professor Salisu Ahmad Ibrahim stated this during a Media Dialogue in preparation for the campaign organized by state primary healthcare management Board, National primary healthcare management agency and Global Polio eradication initiative partners.
The Director General Represented by Board’s Behavioral change officer state Nasir Kabir said the November 2025 polio immunization campaign will be the last camping in the year targeting 3.9 Children under five across the 44 local government areas of the state.
Professor Salisu Ahmad Ibrahim pointed out that, apart from Polio vaccine during the campaign there is other anti gents Vaccine given to Children for their Routine immunization aims as reducing circulating Variant Polio virus type II (cVpv2) in the state.
Speaking earlier, the state incident Manager Dr Abdullahi Sa’ad said Kano state government in collaboration with National primary healthcare management agency has recorded success in the fighting against Polio in this year compared to last year.
In his speech the UNICEF field office Kano Mr Rahama Rihood Muhammad Farah said Kano state is among the 21 priority states, will carry out the campaign across all 44 Local Government Areas and 484 wards, targeting a minimum of 95% coverage.
“Kano has made remarkable progress with only three confirmed cases this year, down from 17 affected LGAs in 2024.” He said
Mr. Rahma Rihood Mohamed Farah emphasised the importance of intensified community mobilisation, highlighting radio as a key tool for reaching remote communities.
He warned that lapses in vaccination could allow the virus to return, stressing Nigeria’s goal of achieving zero polio cases by December 2025.
In her speech, the state coordinator national primary healthcare management agency Dr Maryam Umar described media as a partner in progress in Polio eradication.
She warned that persistent myths continue to endanger children despite significant progress and noted that the November campaign offers another opportunity to close immunity gaps and ensure no child is left behind.
The November Polio Camping exercise across the state will start from 29th to 4th December 2025.
