Kano State Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, Alhaji Mohammed Tajo Othman, has urged the 44 Local Governments in Kano State to participate actively and showcase their agricultural potential to the global community.
The Commissioner made this call at the opening of the 2025 edition of the 17th National Agricultural Show held in Karu, Nasarawa State. Alhaji Othman emphasised that it’s high time for the government to refocus attention on agriculture as a major employer of labour, particularly in this era of high unemployment.
The Commissioner, who was represented by the Senior Special Assistant to the Governor on Local Government matters, Alhaji Bashir Abubakar Yaro, said the Kano State Government has strengthened community value change across 44 LGAs, empowering women and youth. He added that agriculture is imperative, as when a farmer strives, the community will prosper.
The National Agricultural Show provides a platform for stakeholders to showcase their products, share knowledge, and attract investments in the agricultural sector. The Commissioner expressed optimism that the event would promote agro-industrialisation and economic diversification in the state, creating jobs and stimulating economic growth.
Alhaji Yaro highlighted the government’s commitment to supporting farmers and agricultural entrepreneurs across LGAs through initiatives such as the provision of farm inputs, credit facilities, and capacity-building programs. He urged participants to leverage the show to network, learn, and explore business opportunities.
The Kano State Government is committed to creating an enabling environment for agricultural development. The Commissioner commended the organisers for providing a platform for stakeholders to discuss issues affecting the sector and explore solutions.
In a statement signed by public relations officer state ministry for local government and chieftaincy affairs Aminu Bello Sani said the 4-day event will bring together farmers, policymakers, researchers, academia and industry stakeholders to promote agricultural development, create jobs, and stimulate economic growth. The State and Local Government that showcases the high-quality yield or innovation will be awarded for topping the event.
The Commissioner urged stakeholders to work together to achieve the show’s goals and unlock the potential of the agricultural sector across 44 Local Governments of Kano State.
