In line with the reform agenda of Governor Engr. Abba Kabir Yusuf, and the commitment of the Kano State Hospitals Management Board towards strengthening quality healthcare delivery, the Executive Secretary of the Board, Dr. Mansur Mudi Nagoda, has approved the constitution of two High Powered Top Management Supervisory Teams to undertake regular monitoring, evaluation, and supportive supervision of all secondary healthcare facilities under the Board.
The initiative is aimed at reinforcing accountability, promoting excellence in service delivery, ensuring adherence to professional standards, and accelerating the ongoing transformation of healthcare institutions across the state.
In a statement signed by public relations officer State Hospitals Management Board Samira Sulaiman said the supervisory exercise will provide an avenue for direct engagement with healthcare workers, identification of operational challenges, assessment of infrastructure and equipment, as well as the implementation of practical solutions that will further improve patient care and satisfaction.
TEAM A comprises of the Executive Secretary as the chairman, Director Administration and General Services, Director, Pharmaceutical Services, Director, Medical Laboratory Services, Deputy Director, Nursing Services, Director, Planning, Research and Statistics, Representative, Nigerian Medical Association (NMA), Representative Association of Laboratory Scientists (ALS) and Public Health Nursing (PHN) Representative.
Similarly, team B comprises of Director, Medical Services who will head the team, Director Nursing Services, Deputy Director, Accounts Director, Hospital Services, Representative, National Association of Nigerian Nurses and Midwives (NANNM), Representative, National Association of Government General Medical and Dental Practitioners (NAGGMDP), Primary Health Care Coordinator Representative, Pharmaceutical Association, Representative, Medical and Health Workers Union of Nigeria (MHWUN)
Both teams will work according to the Terms of Reference laid down by the Executive Secretary which includes
1. Assess the quality and efficiency of healthcare service delivery in the facilities.
2. Monitor staff attendance, discipline, adherence to duty rosters, and overall workforce productivity.
3. Evaluate the availability, functionality, and maintenance of medical equipment and infrastructure.
4. Assess the availability and proper utilization of essential drugs, laboratory reagents, and other medical consumables.
5. Ensure compliance with established clinical, nursing, pharmaceutical, laboratory, and administrative standards.
6. Identify operational challenges and make practical recommendations for immediate and long term interventions.
7. Engage facility management teams and staff to foster teamwork, professionalism, and improved patient-centered care.
8. Submit comprehensive reports with actionable recommendations to the Executive Secretary after each supervisory exercise.
9. Monitor the implementation of recommendations arising from previous supervisory visits.
10. General Hospital cleanliness.
Speaking on the development, the Executive Secretary, Dr. Mansur Mudi Nagoda, emphasized that the formation of the teams reflects the Board’s determination to institutionalize a culture of continuous quality improvement and responsive healthcare management.
He noted that effective supervision remains one of the strongest pillars for achieving excellence in healthcare delivery and assured the people of Kano State that the Board will continue to deploy every available mechanism to ensure that government investments in the health sector translate into improved services for all citizens.
The Kano State Hospitals Management Board remains steadfast in its commitment to supporting the visionary leadership of His Excellency, Engr. Abba Kabir Yusuf, in building a resilient, accessible, and efficient healthcare system that meets the aspirations of the people of Kano State.
