He explained that the bye-election became necessary following the death of two members representing Ungogo and Kano Municipal in the State House of Assembly.

He added that the Speaker of the Kano State House of Assembly had formally notified the Commission of the vacant positions.

Ambassador Zango noted that ten political parties will participate in the election, emphasizing that the Commission is fully prepared in terms of security arrangements and availability of election materials.

The Commissioner also provided a summary of the electoral landscape in the two constituencies:
– Number of Registration Areas: 24
– Number of Polling Units: 1,014
– Number of Registered Voters: 535,646
– Number of PVCs Collected: 512,135

Speaking on the ongoing nationwide voter registration exercise, the REC stated that Kano State currently leads other states in terms of voter turnout and registration figures.

He further noted that the Commission has completed the first phase of the registration exercise and expressed optimism that the second phase would be even more successful.

“We have taken note of all the challenges encountered during the first phase and are committed to addressing them in the second phase,” he said.
“I urge all eligible citizens of Kano to take advantage of this opportunity and register.”
