Kano state Universal Basic Education Board has expressed its readiness to partner with relevant stakeholders in promoting basic Education in the state.
The state executive universal education board chairman Alhaji Yusuf Kabir stated this while declaring open 2026 international day of education meeting organized by UNICEF Kano field office in collaboration with SUBEB.
He said Education is the backbone of the development of any society need all necessary support from any relevant stakeholders without living government alone.
Alhaji Yusuf Kabir highlighted some of the supports from the UNICEF Kano field office in the education sector which includes providing reading and learning material and teacher training that are working with the Board.
The state SUBEB chairman pointed out the achievements so far achieved by the
Kano state government in universal basic education especially In Inclusive Education, the Board has expanded access for children with disabilities, integrating Qur’anic schools into the formal system, reducing out-of-school children across the state.
Teacher Recruitment & Training: Over 8,000 schools now benefit from 50,000 teachers, with an additional 4,315 former BESDA volunteers recently made permanent staff, and a new teacher-vehicle loan scheme plus 444 motorcycles and 300 computers to improve school supervision.
“We are on the process of recruiting 4000 more teachers in tha State Infrastructure & Safety:More than 2,000 classrooms have been renovated and 250 new ones built, while 1,600 security personnel have been deployed to safeguard schools, ensuring a safe learning environment.” Alhaji Yusuf Kabir added.
According to SUBEB chairman the Gender-Responsive Budgeting is among achievements that focused on the newly adopted GREB framework ensures every naira spent on education targets girls’ needs, including sanitation, mentorship, and safe transport, with over 30,000 girls returned to school via the AGILE project.
“We will continue to expand digital literacy, increase scholarship opportunities, and strengthen community-based School-Based Management Committees (SBMCs) to ensure local ownership and sustainability. Our partnership with federal programs like the National Home-Grown School Feeding Programme will provide nutritious snacks, boosting attendance and learning outcomes.” He added.
In his goodwill massage, the state School-Based management Committee Alhaji Haladu Tijjani Baraya said the committee is up and doing in encouraging parents to make sure all their eligible children are Enrolle in the school. Adding that the statistics of state pupils enrollment shows that girls supercedes the boys with 54% while boys with 46%.
During the meeting the pupils in attendance were devided into Three groups for group work on how to tackle the challenges in the education sector and present their work.
Speaking earlier, the UNICEF chief field office Kano Mr Rahama Rihood Muhammad Farah said education is not just a service, it is a right, a beacon of hope, and the foundation of every strong society.
“A thread that weaves together our shared humanity, binding us in dignity and purpose.
According to Mr Rahama Rihood in Kano Field Office states, and across Northern Nigeria, we understand deeply what education means.
“It means dignity to walk with pride. It means a future where every child, girl or boy, can dream freely and contribute meaningfully to their community. A future where every voice is heard, and every story is valued,” He said.
“I believe that some of the things they would want to see in the Education system will include an education that is relevant, inclusive, safe, and empowering.
They will want classrooms that inspire creativity, teachers that motivate learning, and systems that catch every child, ensuring no one is left behind,” Rahma said.
Mr Farah pointed out that it is about hearts beating as one, hands joining hands, and communities rising together.
“At UNICEF, we remain firmly committed to supporting the Government and people under Kano Field Office States to strengthen education systems, improve learning environments, promote adolescent development, and ensure that every child has access to quality education,” He added.
