Women Lawyers Barrister Nabila Abba Isma’il, Chairperson of the Women Lawyers Congress, has issued a strongly worded statement expressing deep concern over the deteriorating security situation in Kano State.
Addressing a mammoth crowd of women’s groups and other non-governmental organizations gathered at Tukur Road, Kano, who were raising placards with various inscriptions in support of the Kano CP, criticized the current administration for what she described as a “worrisome neglect” of critical security challenges and a pattern of undermining democratic institutions.
According to Barrister Isma’il, multiple letters from the Office of the Inspector General of Police (IGP) have been disregarded by the state government, further aggravating Kano’s fragile security environment.

She also highlighted disturbing developments during the recent elections, where over 300 political thugs were reportedly apprehended by police but later released without due process or accountability.
“The menace of daba gangs continues to endanger the lives and livelihoods of ordinary citizens,” she stated, adding that these violent groups operate openly while government inaction allows them to thrive.
Barrister Isma’il also accused the governor of systematically denying the police adequate funding and support since assuming office, which she claims has crippled their ability to carry out their duties professionally. She noted that two previous Commissioners of Police had suffered under similar conditions.

Her remarks come amid growing public concern over the safety of residents and the perceived politicization of law enforcement in Kano State.
