Borno State Governor, Professor Babagana Umara Zulum, has approved the appointment of Alhaji Bunu Bukar FCNA as the new Accountant General of the State.
In a statement by the Special Adviser to the Governor on Media, Dauda Iliya, the appointment is in accordance with the powers conferred on the governor under Section 208, Subsection 2(c) of the 1999 Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria (as amended).
The statement declared that Alhaji Bukar would take over from the current Accountant General, Alhaji Bura Usman, who is due to retire on 8th May.
Prior to his new role, Alhaji Bukar served as Director of Treasury Operations in the Office of the Accountant General, under Borno State Ministry of Finance.
A seasoned finance professional, Alhaji Bunu is a Fellow of the Certified National Accountants (FCNA) and a member of the Financial Reporting Council of Nigeria. He holds a Master’s degree in Business Administration (MBA) with a specialisation in finance, as well as a postgraduate diploma in accountancy, among other academic and professional qualifications.
With over 16 years of experience in the banking sector and 13 years in public service, Alhaji Bukar is expected to bring his wealth of knowledge and expertise to his new position.
While congratulating the newly appointed Accountant General, Governor Zulum charged him to apply his extensive experience in upholding the principles of professionalism, transparency, financial integrity, and accountability in the discharge of his duties.
The governor also commended the outgoing Accountant General, Alhaji Bura Usman, for his meritorious service and contributions to the development of the state and the administration.
The appointment will take effect from 8th May, 2025.
