The Committee of Corner Shops Owners at the Federal Housing Estate, Sharada, Kano State, has made a appeal to Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf, to urgently investigate the recent demolition of their property carried out under the directive of the Kano State Commissioner for Lands and Physical Planning.
Speaking at a press briefing on Wednesday, the Chairman of the Committee, Alhaji Sani Maikusa, alongside the Secretary, Alhaji Hafizu Mato, expressed deep concern over what they described as a forceful occupation of their legally acquired plots of land.
They said they owned the land through legal means after allocating same to original alottees by the Federal Housing Authority 23 years ago, noting that they have valid documents of title subsisting for 60 to 99 years, depending on the allocation.
The Committee noted that they have remained in uninterrupted possession of the land for over two decades, having fulfilled all financial obligations and awaiting the regularization of building permits.
They lamented that despite a subsisting order of the Kano High Court, in a Suit No: K/173/2023 delivered Justice Abdu Maiwada Abubakar on October 8, 2025, restraining all parties from interfering with the property, the demolition exercise was still carried out.
Concent Judgement is available delivered by court stated that,
“These shall be the settlement terms before Kano State High Court of Justice in Suit No: K/173/2023 and the parties hereby agree to wholly and completely forgo and relinquish all their claims before Hon. Court and undertake on their honor to be bound by the sanctity of these terms of settlement which are hereby adopted as consent judgement”
According to them both Minister of Works, Federal Housing Authority, Kano State Bureau For Land Management, Kano, Kano State Geographic Information System, KNUPDA were all parties to the suit.
Concent Judgement is available delivered by court stated that,
That these shall be the settlement terms before Kano State High Court of Justice in Suit No: K/173/2023 and the parties hereby agree to wholly and completely forgo and relinquish all their claims before Hon. Court and undertakebon their honor to be bound by the sanctity of these terms of settlement which are hereby adopted as consent judgement”
“This action is not only a violation of our rights but also a disobedience to a lawful court order. If any party is dissatisfied with the judgment, the proper legal step is to appeal, not to demolish our property,” the Committee stated.
They further explained that most of the affected owners are retirees and pensioners who invested their hard-earned savings into acquiring the land.
They stressed that they are peace-loving citizens who have consistently followed due process, including purchasing the plots from original allottees in 2003 and fencing the perimeter in line with agreements signed with the Federal Housing Authority.
The Committee rejected claims that the land was designated for recreational use, insisting that the master plan of the Federal Housing Estate did not indicate such a purpose.
They urged the government to consult directly with the Federal Housing Authority to resolve any pending issues rather than punishing law-abiding citizens.
The Committee called on Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf to “fear God in this sacred month” and to ensure justice by investigating the matter thoroughly.
They expressed confidence that the Governor may have been misled by individuals with parochial interests and appealed for his intervention to protect their rights as bona fide landowners.
