The official closing ceremony of the maiden edition of the Northwest University Inter-Union Sports Championship ended on a high note, marking the successful conclusion of a competition that promoted teamwork, fitness, and unity among members of staff.
The Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) emerged as the football champions, while the Non-Academic Staff Union of Educational and Associated Institutions (NASU) finished as runners-up.
The National Association of Academic Technologists (NAAT) secured third place in the football competition and also emerged as the overall champions in table tennis and chess.
Speaking at the closing ceremony, the Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Administration), Professor Tijjani Buhari, who represented the Vice-Chancellor, Professor Amina Salihi Bayero, said the championship was organized to encourage staff to embrace physical exercise while fostering friendship, teamwork, and unity across the university community.
He added that the university is committed to working with private individuals and organizations to upgrade its sporting facilities and create a more conducive environment for sports development.
With the successful conclusion of the maiden championship, Northwest University will now shift its attention to preparations for the upcoming Nigerian University Games (NUGA), where it hopes to build on the momentum generated by the inter-union competition.
