About 200 young women and girls have received a step down trained on different skill acquisition programme organised by the Women Wing of Maigari Youth Organization (MYO), in Yobe State.

The impactful Women Empowerment Program aims to equip participants with practical skills for entrepreneurship, economic self-reliance, and community development.

In his address the facilitator of the training and commissioner Federal Character Commission representing Yobe State Alh Jibrin Mai Gari, said the training aims to address issues of unemployment and vulnerability among uneducated women and girls to be self reliant and independent.

Represented by Mamman Maje, Alh Mai Gari explained that more is needed to be done to fight poverty among married women and girls, and also fix broken marriages, streets hawking, prostitution, child abuse and rape in the society.

While advising the teaming women to pay more attention and learn, Mai Gari announced that a token would be given to each participant, which will serve as a capital for a smooth start-up.

He said plans are still on, to equip men in different areas of life, using government owned state vocational centers in all the local government areas of the state.

In her remarks, the women leader in charge of the training, Haj Habiba Abubakar who described the training as timely , said this is an opportunity for women to take charge of their homes, considering the economic situation of the country.

She attributed the difficulties faced by women in their marital homes to over dependance, which tend to increase the domestic burdens in their husbands.

Habiba called on parents to be patient enough and encourage their children through enrolling them into different skills acquisition programme at their young age.

Some of the beneficiaries interviewed expressed joy and optimism that the training would address a wide range of issues, when practiced.

The occasion which took place at the Multi Purpose Hall of the federal college of education Potiskum, was attended by a significant number of women and girls.

The initiative displayed a practical procedure of making Room Fresheners, Vaseline, and Liquid Soap to the participants.
